A Young Warrior’s Fight for Life

Saurav, a bright and cheerful 12-year-old boy from Farrukhabad, Uttar Pradesh, has been fearlessly battling B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia since June 2022. Despite his young age, he has shown huge strength in fighting this relentless disease. However, his journey has been anything but easy. The burden of his illness has taken a toll not only on his health but also on his family, who are struggling to make ends meet.

A Family’s Struggle Amidst Hardships

Saurav comes from a small and humble family of three members. His father, Samar Pal, is a laborer with an insufficient monthly income of Rs. 9,000. He was the sole workingman of the family, but due to the very large responsibilities of caring for Saurav, he has been unable to work regularly. With no stable source of income, the family is finding it increasingly difficult to afford the rising costs of treatment, travel, and daily living expenses in Delhi.

Saurav's mother stands by his side every moment, offering him love and comfort. But she too is struggling with the emotional weight of watching her son endure painful treatments. She often cries silently, worried about how they will manage to pay for the next round of treatment, wondering if they will have enough to eat while staying in Delhi for his medical appointments.

A Tough Journey Through Treatment

For the past two years, Saurav has been undergoing treatment at AIIMS, New Delhi, under the supervision of Dr. Rachna Seth. His treatment requires frequent hospital visits, expensive medications, and specialized care. The cost of his treatment alone is estimated to be around Rs. 2.6 lakh, a sum far beyond the family’s financial capacity.

The procedures are not only financially draining but also physically exhausting for Saurav. The chemotherapy sessions leave him weak, causing him to lose his hunger and energy. Despite this, he tries to keep a smile on his face, finding joy in small things like drawing pictures and listening to his favorite stories. But as days pass, the family’s resources dwindle, and their hope tires with the fear of not being able to afford the next stage of treatment.

On top of medical expenses, the family also faces the challenge of traveling back and forth from Farrukhabad to Delhi, along with the high cost of staying in the city. Every passing day adds to their financial burden, making it difficult for them to continue their treatment without external support.

Before his diagnosis, Saurav was like any other young boy—full of dreams and ambitions. He loved playing cricket with his friends, enjoyed going to school, and wanted to become a doctor when he grew up. But now, his life revolves around hospital visits, painful injections, and exhausting treatments. The school books he once cherished remain untouched, and his childhood has been replaced by a battle for survival.

His parents dream of seeing him healthy again, playing with his friends, and continuing his education. They refuse to give up, despite the hardships, but they know they cannot do it alone.
